Balneario Camberou

May 15, 2013

Today we drove up (about an hour north) to a city called Balneario Camberou in hopes of seeing the city and riding the cable car. Unfortunately since it is off season right now (Brazil's winter) most of the tourist attractions are closed during the week, so instead we just walked around the city and the beach  had lunch and headed home. We were able to see the Cristo Luz statue that is on top of a mountain over looking the city (like Rio) from a distance, and we stumbled upon a really cool look out spot that is normally used for para-gliders who jump off and glide down to the beaches below, so I was able to get some cool pictures. After that we made plans to come back the next Sunday to do all the fun stuff we had planned for today.

Today we went to Balneario on a mission to have some adventure! When we got to the city we headed to the cable car and found out it was still running! So we took the cable car up the side of the mountain which over looked the entire city of Balneario Camberou, it was gorgeous! From the cable car you can see the long stretch of beach that is in front of the downtown area where all the fine dinning restaurants and clubs are, Balneario is known to be the "mini Rio" because it has an amazing night life during the summer, actually just up the road is Warung which has recently been named the number one club in the world. You can also see the Atlantic ocean all the way to the horizon, it's stunning, plus there were pirate ships! They looked perfectly placed in the deep blue ocean surrounded by the tropical mountains and small houses scattered along the sides of the peninsulas that jut out into the ocean on both sides of the city, it looked like something out of a movie.

Once we reached the top of the mountain we bought tickets to do all the cool adventure stuff, because after all when are we going to be in Balneario again, so we lived it up and did everything. There was a roller coaster along the top of the mountain, that was unexpectedly fast! When I got on it I was expecting a slow sight-seeing tour of the top of the mountain, oh no! It was so fast! It was so much fun! It swerved around the top of mountain and came out over the sides where you would catch amazing views of the city and the ocean below. I wanted to go again, but they wouldn't let us go again for free and it was too much to pay twice. So we headed to the zip line! On the other side of the mountain you could zip line down to another beach. The zip line was a blast too! I was so full of adrenaline after the zip line and the roller coaster, I couldn't stop laughing and smiling, it was so much fun. The view from the zip line was amazing, it was like every direction you looked in could have been a post card. After our massive adrenaline rush, we decided to ride the cable car a couple more times and walk around the top of the mountain and see all the look out points and just chill and enjoy the beautiful views.

After lunch we went down to the beach and enjoyed the nice water and I took some pictures. While I was walking I found a bunch of unbroken sand dollars! (well I guess in brazil they would be called sand reis) so I collected them and brought them home :)
